  2. Good video. I had my amiga 1000. I wasn't very experienced and had a learning disability when I had it. I tried to hook up my starboard and put together an external hard drive with it. I thought I had 2 MB of chip ram. Do you think it was more like 1meg chip ram and 2mb fast? My biggest problem was setting up it to boot from the hard drive. Anyone got an a1000 video and explain the procedure and demonstrate?

  3. Fast memory isn't usually particuarly quick. The difference is that it's uncontended. The CPU and coprocessors have to compete for access to chip memory. Only the CPU addresses fast memory, so if you can dump the program up there, the system can operate more effectively in parallel, resulting in a reasonably significant speed boost over a system with no fast RAM.

Of course, expanded chip memory is important too, because it'll be used by the sound and video chips.

  4. There were a number of channels claiming that a screwdriver will work…it won't. The chip is way too tight in the socket and when prying you will crack the socket, which is literally 80 pins to desolder and replace…a real pain and not worth the $6 investment for the extraction tool.

  5. Got the same A500 re-capped revision 5 with the ECS 8372A Fat Angus upgrade and the A501 revision 6C. Kickstart 3.1 and the ACA500plus.

Got almost all the games working with WHDLoad. But Cannon Fodder don’t work. Must have 1088Kb CHIP RAM, got 970Kb CHIP RAM.

Can the ACA1221ec get extra CHIP RAM boost

    Thanks for the mod video.

  6. Funny enough I'm attempting to restore a Rev 5 Motherboard, just waiting on Caps and the 512KB Trapdoor expansion and it came with an 8372A, but the Jumper and the trace were not modified. If I wasn't subscribed here, I would likely be floundering trying to figure out why I can't get a full 1MB…

  7. A little bit confusing. They used other words to "normal" customers in Sweden. I remember that it was called RAM on Amiga 500 and graphic RAM on Amiga 500 Plus. Graphic RAM were more versatile.

  8. Thanks for the vid, I have an NTSC rev 5 and I haven't done this in nearly 20 years. Your video helped tremendously. I just wanted to say that the chip removing tool you were using, you don't pull or wiggle the chip at all. Hold that tool in your hand, look at the ends that grab the chip. Now squeeze the tool. Yes, that's right, the tool extracts the chip for you. All you do is insert it then squeeze. Chip will pop right out.

  9. Great video – nice and clear! One question: how do you link the Amiga to the LCD monitor? Is it a special cable or another mod?

  10. Has anyone other than me broken that tab on the trap door covers? I have four of them and I have broken three. I kid you not, I have tried very hard to be gentle but they just snap. Ugh.

  11. do you think it would be possible to fit a small switch between the EXRAM solder points? I'm alittle worried about severing the connections permanently on that and the jumper JP2… are there any downsides to these permanent mods? thanks for your awesome helpful vid

  12. Hi there. atm I bought the 8372A chip for my A500 rev5. My version is still older since it is brownish colour mobo. It has kipper2k A508 fastmem board with ks3.1 rom.
My question is when quitting a game/demo etc from whdload does the quit key work or have to quit by using ctrl +A+A keys? Is it true that you must have a 68010 processor to quit whdload games??
